Choice Trade Review

Based in New Jersey, Choice Trade brokerage was awarded 4-star rating (highest rating is 4.5 stars) by Barron's magazine for 5 years in a row. In 2009 it got top scores in Trade Experience, Trading Technology, Usability and Research Amenities. It was rated at the top in Best For Frequent Traders and Best For International Traders categories in 2010.

The firm offers very low direct access commissions: $0.005 per share with $1 minimum per trade. This means that all orders of up to 200 shares will cost just $1. Orders up to 500 shares will cost $2.50 or less. Minimum to open cash account is $0, for margin account is $2,000.

If you plan to invest primarily in mutual funds then Choice Trade is not a firm for you - its $25 mutual fund commission is too high. The firm provides its customers with lots of great services, such as investor community, virtual trading and powerful trading tools (3 different trading platforms).

Unfortunately, Choice Trade does not offer free streaming data that many other brokerage firms provide. The company also has high monthly trading platform fees, which make sense only to very active traders. It is expensive to trade extended hours with them.

We recommend Choice Trade to active traders and daytraders as well as for IRA accounts. You could open account with the firm with no money down in just a few minutes and try their virtual trading and other services for free.
