Save money on groceries or catch cheap bus in Chinatown.
It's probably because of fierce competition, very hard-working people and low wages, but you could find some of the best prices on food in the Chinese neighborhood in your city. I highly recommend exploring it. You are likely to save a lot of money on groceries and souvenirs. I generally avoid buying electronics and clothes there because of quality concerns.
When you are there, don't forget to try exotic fruits and vegetables: rambutan, mangustin, longan and others. Be prepared to see things that will seem weird: dried bats, live turtles and frogs sold as a food.
Chinese neighborhoods also have a bunch of cheap travel/bus companies that will take you to other cities for a fraction of the Greyhound cost. For example, Apex Bus will take you from NYC to Philly for just $7.50-$10 one way! NYC to Washington is just $15-$20 one way. The trip from Brooklyn to Atlantic City is just $15 and casino will give you $22 at the arrival. Greyhound, try beating that price! But don't expect impeccable service, timely arrival and luxury buses. Not for this price.
