Tip 2. Credit cards protect you - Money Saving Tips And Secrets

Use credit card, not debit card, when shopping online.

Yes, credit cards are evil. But there is one area where they are undeniably valuable. It's online shopping. The common wisdom is that if you want to stay out of the debt, you should give up credit cards altogether and use debit cards instead. This way you cannot spend more then you have and get into debt (like so many people did). It's a valid argument and I agree. But there is one area where debit cards drop the ball: when shopping online you are not protected when somebody gets hold of your debit card information and uses it. You could potentially loose all money on your account!

With credit cards the maximum amount you could loose when your card information is stolen is just $50. That's it!

I shop both online and offline using my credit cards, then pay off the full balance when bill comes in (unless I have 0% APR). Debit cards are too risky and I use them only in ATMs.
